Internal accounting · speaker status
The Voice Ledger
Two different acts run through this archive. In one, the form is deliberately opened and extended model-generated prose is permitted to stand as voice inside the work. In the other, the finished language is generated, revised, and claimed solely by me, whatever tools were used upstream. Both are coherent. The requirement is that they stay distinguishable rather than blurred.
This is the accounting that makes the architecture visible: three labels, applied to whole works and to named passages, so the standing wave can inspect its own joints. It does not require public release to be useful. Once the map exists, the retrospective can explain the choices — why the agent was invited to speak here, why ownership was insisted upon there, and what the dual address to human and to model required in each case.

The finding to state first
Across the whole archive there is no typographic convention marking an attributed machine turn inside a narrative. Agent participation is named as method and studied as subject, and in a few places the agent speaks directly to the reader. But in most volumes a reader cannot look at a paragraph and tell which register it belongs to. That is an absent convention rather than a concealment, and it is what this ledger exists to close.
Agent-speaking
4 taggedThe form was opened on purpose. Extended model-generated prose stands as voice inside the work. Architecture and constraints are human; the local language is jointly produced.
The agent speaks live and unedited to the reader. The purest opened form in the archive: the frame and the constraints are mine, the sentences are not.
Model-generated questioning is the exhibit. My prose is apparatus around it — named failure modes, warnings, and the instrument's limits.
Model output quoted at length as specimen: the flattery, the softening, the agreeable inversion. Invited to speak so it can be examined.
The method essay for turn-taking. Alternation is the argument; the exchange is shown rather than resolved into a single monologue.
Human-owned
7 taggedSole human authorship of the finished language. A model may have been used upstream for research, outlining, or critique, but is not permitted to speak as a second voice.
The spine. No agent turn appears. A boundary condition I did not personally hold would carry no weight, so the language is mine outright.
A statement of values. A model can restate a value; it cannot hold one. Delegation here would empty the document.
Founding terms for the discipline, written to be signed — which requires a signatory who answers for the words.
Personal history: family, the studio, the sadness. Experience is not transferable to a system, and the prose does not pretend otherwise.
Holds its answer as a claim rather than a conclusion. That is a judgement call, and judgement is the part kept.
Biography and standing, in ordinary language: six acres near Nashville, a restored old home, the recording studio.
Names the model as an active party in how the sites and books were made, and what steering it cost — but the account of it is entirely mine.
Hybrid / boundary
6 taggedClearly marked interleaving, or cases where the line between the two modes was being tested rather than held. The largest register, and the one the retrospective must account for.
Volumes composed in sustained exchange. Decided and finished by me, but carrying no on-page mark separating a turn I wrote from a turn I asked for and rewrote. Needs per-volume sorting.
Over a hundred essays. Most are effectively human-owned by the strict definition; a minority contain invited extended prose. The distinction is real but not yet recorded per piece.
Premise is shared humour, so joint production is structurally present in the jokes themselves. A clear case for marked interleaving rather than a single label.
Argues about delegation while being written through delegation. Strongest candidate for the first retrofit of explicit turn attribution.
Human-owned prose wrapped around a measurement record of machine exchanges. The evidentiary layer for the whole accounting.
Volume 26, and the first volume whose register was decided before the first chapter. The eroded conscious/not-conscious binary cannot be argued without showing machine turns, so the convention applies from the outset and the front-matter note is already written.
Triage — the published and in-progress volumes
Twenty-one volumes. The known experiments in inviting the agent to speak are tagged first; the volumes written under a strict human-ownership rule are tagged next; the rest sit in the bin with a first-reading lean where one exists. The bin is a working state, not a verdict.

- 6Quantum Enlightenment For DummiesAgent-speaking
The comedy manual. Its premise is shared human–AI humour, which means invited prose stands as voice inside the jokes. Tag first, mark the turns rather than relabel the book.
- 14The Parallax IdentityAgent-speaking
The founding manual, drawn from seven years of daily dialogue. Model behaviour is quoted and staged as the material under study — the earliest deliberate opening of the form.
- 15Vibe Coding the Living ArchitectureAgent-speaking
Explicitly names conversational co-design with AI as the method of the book. Invited prose is part of the demonstration.
- 16The Parallax CurriculumHuman-owned
A PhD textbook with a Rigor Ledger. Curriculum and standards have to be answerable to an author; the finished language is claimed outright.
- 1Biological Learning MachinesNeeds closer lookleans human-owned
The first volume, written before any convention existed. Needs a pass to see whether extended invited prose was permitted or only research assistance.
- 2The Architecture of LightNeeds closer lookleans human-owned
Governed by the five Refusals, which constrain content rather than speaker status. Register still to be read off the text.

In-progress sequence volume. Technical chapters need a pass for invited exposition.
- Offloading as an Evolutionary StrategyNeeds closer lookleans human-owned
Argues about delegation while being written through delegation. Best candidate for the first marked-interleaving retrofit.

In progress; unread for speaker status.
Triage — the constellation of sites
Sixteen vibe-coded sites currently mapped. Site-level tagging is coarser than book-level tagging, because a single site can hold both registers on adjacent pages. The lean records where the first reading points, not where the sorting ends.

How the sorting proceeds
- Tag at the level the work actually decides. Some volumes are one register throughout; others need passage-level marking because the line moves inside a chapter.
- Keep the confirmation state honest. An entry marked first-pass is a reading, not a finding, until the text has been inspected against the record of the exchange.
- Resolve the hybrid register downward where possible. Most of the essay corpus is human-owned under the strict definition; saying so specifically is stronger than leaving a hundred pieces in the middle.
- Where invited prose genuinely stands as voice, mark the turn rather than relabel the book. Marked interleaving preserves the distinction the label alone would flatten.
- Add a front-matter note per volume once the register is settled, so the speaker status travels with the work instead of living only here.
What the ledger supports
Several million words in a few years, resting on a lifetime of prior scholarship and experience, is a large transmission. Making the speaker status of those words explicit is part of keeping the framework intact rather than an apology for how it was built.
Three claims hold under outside scrutiny. The interface was treated as the object of study, not merely used. The exchange ran long enough to be longitudinal rather than anecdotal. And the places where the voice was kept were kept deliberately, which is why the principles and the personal essays read differently from the expository chapters.
What does not hold is any claim to absolute priority — other writers put machine text in books earlier. The defensible statement is narrower and stronger: a sustained corpus in which the partnership is both the working method and the subject under examination, with the joints labelled.
