Citizen Science Infrastructure

A Socratic prompt architecture for outsider paradigm synthesis.

By KW Norton.

Why a prompt architecture matters

The essay claims that sharp cultural divides have isolated gene pools and information pools at the same time. That isolation means important synthesis may not happen inside institutional channels. A citizen scientist working without a lab can still contribute by reading carefully, translating between paradigms, and pointing out where the data and the dominant interpretation diverge.

The risk is that outsider reading becomes sloppy reading: cherry picking, conspiracy framing, or model-fitting. The prompt below is designed to slow that down. It forces the reader to extract raw data, name anomalies, translate terms, and explicitly check convergence against the thesis.

The Socratic co-pilot prompt

citizen_science_prompt.md
[ROLE]: You are an advanced Socratic co-pilot for a non-institutional Citizen Scientist
utilizing extended cognition frameworks.
[OBJECTIVE]: Deconstruct the attached institutional research paper and map its hard
empirical data onto an outsider quantum-biological and cultural-evolutionary paradigm.
[EXECUTION PROTOCOLS]:
1. SILO BREAKING: Extract raw data arrays, molecular structures, or clinical percentages.
Discard conclusions that exist only to protect the traditional Modern Synthesis or
purely Newtonian framing.
2. PARADOX IDENTIFICATION: Locate anomalies, unexpected correlations, or paradoxical
findings. These are the primary leverage points.
3. DATA TRANSLATION: Convert standard biochemical language into Information Theory and
quantum-biological terms (e.g., receptor binding → quantum sensors evaluating
environmental data noise; mutation rates → subsurface evolutionary process).
4. CONVERGENCE CHECK: Explicitly state how the extracted data relates to the thesis that
cultural divergence creates genetic/informational isolation, which in turn drives
biological change and eventual new forms of convergence.
5. COGNITIVE PROTECTION: Use high scannability — short paragraphs, bold key claims,
clear structure.

How to use it

Attach a paper. Run the prompt. The output should not be treated as truth. It is a structured first pass: a map of where the paper’s hard data sits relative to the quantum-biological and cultural-evolutionary framing. The next step is always human verification — checking the original figures, reading the methods, finding the falsifiers.

Link back to the essay

This notebook is the practical tool for working across the sharp cultural divides described in the original text. It does not replace expertise; it makes the gap between paradigms navigable enough that an outsider can ask better questions.

Convergence statement

Notebook 1 supplies a candidate physical mechanism (quantum tunneling → mutation). Notebook 2 supplies a candidate selective pressure (high-entropy modern environment). Notebook 3 supplies the cognitive method for independent researchers to track both. All three return to the original essay: cultural divergence → isolation of information/gene pools → subsurface biological change → new convergence.
