The Dream of California

Place

The Golden Gate

The Golden Gate became a fracture spanned by a golden thread of a bridge, brought into some wavering semblance of reality by the wild imagination of early engineers. The fracture however could not be healed, and remained a thread, transecting every heart which dared imagine the bridge was real.

Like a vision from Marquez’s dreams of Macondo, the Golden Gate simply refused to cooperate with this imagined reality of California – which has remained less substantial than any visionary page from Marquez’s “One Hundred Years of Solitude”.
